"Havia esse garoto - os cabelos lisos tão loiros, quase brancos, os olhos curiosos da cor do chocolate amargo e a pele clara como leite. Não sabia seu nome, mas sempre o via tarde da noite na parada do ônibus enquanto caminhava pela calçada , voltando do trabalho. Era pequeno, belíssimo, sempre muito bem trajado e o olhar vago. Sua imagem ali no meio daquela rua escura e o olhar além do horizonte despertaram a curiosidade de Ulisses, que não lembrava quando percebeu aquele belo menino a devanear. Sempre que descia na avenida e dava alguns passos, lembrava do jovem e de seu jeito aluado. Pois, conforme os dias passavam, ia se preocupando com ele, um pobre e bem aparentado garoto sentado no meio de uma rua escura. Sua vida não devia ser das menos difíceis para todas as noites esperar aquele ônibus que parecia custar a chegar."
